FUNDACIÓN RAICES, SPAIN
Many unaccompanied migrant children arriving in Spain find their rights violated. The Spanish State Attorney systematically refuses to accept children’s identity documents issued in their countries of origin, and instead determines that they are adults. As a consequence, these children are expelled from child care centers to the streets where they are exposed to serious threats, often causing their disappearance.
Fundación Raíces, an organization co-founded by Lourdes Reyzábal in 1996, helps children and youth to gain effective access to their rights, providing them with legal assistance, social support and job opportunities in the restaurant sector. Lourdes is an extremely strong advocate for children, highly dedicated to the struggle against migration policies that violate their rights, ensuring that all children are protected.
